Box 518
Kersey, CO 80644
Dear Ed:
MANED LAN
RECLAMATION D VISION
Attached are detailed reclamation plans for the sequential reclarnatien at
your gravel pit in Section 4, TSN, R65W. This is a modification and
refinement of a draft plan dated May 13, 1985, which was semt to Nelsen
Engineers.
Seeding recommendations have changed for edges and waste areas because of
changes in mining plan and the handling of off-site water. With the e;:tra
moisture along this drainageway, we can use cereal grain strraw without
reservation. Mountain meadow hay is still preferred for pe0n-~a nently
abandoned roadway=_ because of typically dr-ougthy conditions, however,
clean spring barley straw applied in the fall is acceptable.
Fertilizer recemmendatran=_ have also changed. No nitrogen Will be needed
on wasted areas and edges because a legume has been added to the seed mitt.
Topsoiling won't be needed along edges because no topsoil wjll be stripped
or overburden deposited. Adequate topsoil will still need tlo be recovered
and stared to topsail abandoned roadways and storage areas.
Appro>:imately, 4.3 acre feet of topsoil will be needed to cover the 5.7
acres of overburden placement areas and about 3 acre feet ,.gill be needed
to cover the abandoned roadways. Outside the perimeter of tlhe area to be
mined, an additional 3 acre feet could be used to topsoil 4 acres of
e::pOSed gravel subsoil in the area north and r..~est of the prdPOSed shop
area.
The visiual barrier also needed modification because not alll areas will be
filled or berrned with overburden. Filled areas not adjacent to the
diversion should be planted to eastern red cedar and caragarla. This area
should be clean tilled far weed control for about 7 years. In the fall of
the seventh year-, the seed mi;: for the permanently abandoned areas should
be broadcast and mulched, then mowed for „geed cr~ntrol for 2 years.
