<br />l <br />~f4-DF Anvik loam, 12 to 45 percent slopes <br />• This deep, well drained soil is on moderately steep to steep mountain <br />slopes. I[ is formed in colluvial and alluvial material derived from sand- <br />stone and shale. Elevation isf~00 to lO,OC~i feet, The average annual pre- <br />cipitatioa is about 20 [0 30 inches. The average annual air temperature is <br />about 36 to 42 degrees F., and the average frost-free season is about 75 to <br />100 days. <br />Typically, the surface is covered by a 4 inch thick layer of organic <br />material. The surface layer is typically a dark brown loam about 13 inches <br />[hick. The lower portion of the surface horizon is a Iight }•ellowish brown <br />sandy loam about 6 inches thick. The upper portion of the subsoil is light <br />yellowish brown and brown sandy clay loam about 4 inches thick. The middle <br />portion is brown sandy clay loam about 23 inches thick. The lower porti~+n <br />• is brown sandy clay loam [o over 60 inches in depth. <br />Included with [his soil in mapped areas are about 15 percent Nordic very <br />stony fine sandy loam and small areas of Leadvi]Io :+nci Vnlto s++ils. <br />Permeability is moderate. Cffective rooting depth is more than 60 incl+es. <br />Surface runoff is moderate and erosion hazard is moderate. Available water <br />capacity is high. <br />hfost of the mapping unit is used for woodland and livestock grazin{;. <br />Small areas are used for homesite developments. it is also used f+~r wildlife. <br />This unit is well suited to the production of 4lhite fir. Rased on a <br />site index of ~-' the potential production of marketable timber is cubic <br />feet orC'_•. ~ board feet per acre (International rule) from an even-abed, <br />fully stocked stand of trees years old. Other trees moderately well suited <br />• to this unit are Douglas fir, I:ngelmann spruce and aspen.
