Orell RE: Summit Pressed Brick and Tile Co.
Mined Land Reclamation Specialist Application (77-320) for the 8-Mile
1313 Sherman Street Suite 723 Clay Mine.
Denver, Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Orell:
The following letter is in response to your correspondence of December 6, 1977 and
will constitute the supplement to our application filed with the Board on behalf
of Summit Pressed Brick and Tile Co. In order to be responsive to your concerns,
I will address those items in your letter on an item by item basis:
Item 1: Exhibit A-Concern is expressed over the legal description of the lease versus
the 9.9 acre permit request. Introduction to the legal description, therefore, now
reads as follows: "This application covers 9.9 acres within the following legal sub-
division and acreage", on the enclosed revision of Exhibit A. Also enclosed is the
revised C-3 Mine Plan Map which clearly delineates the 9.9 acres to be permitted.
Item 2: Exhibit C-2 Enclosed is a revision of this exhibit with the legend changed
from "permit application area" to "lease area".
Item 3: Exhibit B-The acreage mined has been reestimated and corrected to 0.4 acres/
year.
Item 4: Exhibit B-Both the topsoil and overburden stockout locations shall be
contained within the affected permit area. Stockpiling will consist of overburden
and sandstone. The overburden will be stockpiled apart from the topsoil for later
use in recontouring.
Item 5: Exhibit E-Assuming a typographical error in your letter I presume that the
"o r" should read "to"? If that assumption is correct the issue should be clarified
by changing the verbage from "average depths" to "approximate depths".
Item 6: Exhibit E- Paragraph 2 shall be revised as follows:
Based on field surveys of undisturbed portions of the lease area adjacent to
the mine, it is anticipated that a seeding mixture of 40q Blue Grama,
20Y Legume Species, and 40q Wheatgrass species will be used. Other native grass
species present on the site are not commercially available as seed. seeainq
mixtures and methods of seeding shall conform to guidelines specified in
pertinent sections of "Revegetation Guidelines for Surface Mined Areas"
~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III ~
impact . _ _ , __~- ~~_
~~,_ _
~~~ environmental scientists & engineers
