(MCC) provides this letter to update the activities associated
with the thermal event. As stated in the above referenced application, there are three activities
involved in locating and extinguishing the combustion: drilling, sealing, and installing a water
supply system.
Dnllln¢
MCC has completed Holes T and Y. Last week MCC began pumping a foam cement through
holes V and Z. Unfortunately, a failure in the piping circuit resulted in both holes being plugged,
which required that MCC drill two new holes, V2 and Z2. Both holes were drilled a few feet
away from the original hole. MCC has also decided to drill Hole C, and possibly Hole B and D.
Depending on the information gathered from the hole, MCC will decide if either, both, or neither
Hole B and D will be drilled next. The locations of the holes aze shown on the enclosed map.
MCC has met with the US Forest Service to discuss interim reclamation, in particular sediment
and erosion control. MCC has begun to acquire silt fence, straw bales, and other sediment
control structures and will begin installing them today.
Sealin
MCC completed a seal at Hole Q. The seal at Hole V2 will be pumped on Mazch 25'", and
hopefully completed by the end of the day. The seal at Hole Z2 will be pumped following the
completion of V2 and should be completed by Mazch 27th.
Water Suoplv System
• The water supply line has been completed and the line tested. MCC has pumped approximately
270,000 gallons of water to the combustion area. MCC has intermittently pumped water into the
mine to "cool" the combustion area during this period until the seals can be completed. Upon
