Topsoils on the site are expected to be between 6 to 60 inches deep. Topsoil will be <br />stripped and stockpiled, segregated from other overburden and waste material stockpiles. <br />The stockpiles will be placed to the east and west of each phase and outside of the <br />operating mine area. Topsoil will be removed on a 5 to 20 acre area at any given time <br />while a portion of any mining phase is underway. Topsoil will be placed on reclaimed <br />areas on a continual basis to minimize stockpiling and unreclaimed areas throughout the <br />life of the mining project. <br />Overburden <br />Boring logs taken from the site show overburden thicknesses range from 2-1/2 feet to 5 <br />feet. These overburden materials will be excavated and stockpiled following stripping of <br />the topsoil. Overburden stockpiles will be separate from topsoil stockpiles. The <br />overburden subsoils may be used for regrading of previously mined areas or may be <br />dumped along the lake edges following mining. <br />Waste materials left from resource processing will be stockpiled and utilized concurrently <br />with overburden subsoil for rough grading previously mined areas. This waste material <br />will be re-transported from the plant site to the pit area. It is anticipated that the waste <br />materials will be used primarily for shorelines as close to the plant site (north end of the <br />property) as possible to minimize necessary haul. <br />Regrading will be smooth and continuous to achieve a uniform sloped condition. No <br />slopes will be greater than 3:1 (horizontal:vertical) on the regraded shoreline, this will <br />allow for re-establishment of vegetation and for shoreline protection. Terrace and <br />benches (10 to 20 feet wide) will be placed along the proposed shoreline to allow for <br />wetland revegetation and wildlife habitat. Mining along proposed shoreline and dikes will <br />be done at approximately reclaimed slopes to minimize additional required backfilling and <br />grading. Regrading of waste materials, subsoils, and topsoil will be on a continual basis <br />as stockpile and mining areas permit. This provides for minimal unreclaimed excavation <br />areas at any one time throughout the project. Although regrading will concentrate on <br />uniform, consistent gradients, the shoreline will be provided to the greatest extent possible <br />with anon-linear, gently undulating shoreline configuration. This shoreline shape will be <br />more beneficial to vegetation and wildlife, and is more pleasing and natural for aesthetic <br />purposes. <br />D-3 <br />
