L
REPORT
SLOPE DISPLACEMENT AND
WATER PRESSURE MONITORING
ORCf1ARD VALLEY MINE
PAONIA, COLORADO
FOR COLORADO WESTMORELAND, INC.
INSTALLATION
•
GEO-HYDRO Consulting, Inc. has installed five inclinometers and five
pressure transducers at critical locations in the cuts and fills at the
Orchard Valley Mine. Installation and initial readings were completed in
October, 1982. The locations of all inclinometers (I1 through IS) and
pressure transducers (P1 through PS) are shown on Plate 1. Coordinates
and elevations of the inclinometer installations and construction details
are presented in Table 1, while those for the pressure transducers are
presented in Table 2.
Inclinometer casing was installed in 6-inch augered borings which
were backfilled with dry sand screened through a ;~10 screen into the boring
to ensure an adequate packing density.
Pressure transducers P1 and P2 were installed in 4-inch augered borings
adjacent to inclinometers Il and I2, respectively. Pressure tranducers P3
through PS were installed in the same 6-inch borings as inclinometers I3
through IS. Pressure transducers PI through P4 were installed at an eleva-
tion corresponding approximately to the original ground surface below the fill.
They were installed near the middle of an approximately 10 foot sand pack
section which had a seal from bentonite pellets constructed at top and bottom.
Pressure transducer PS was installed at a depth of 98 feet in the colluvial
soils at this location. Sand pack was installed for the full depth of this
boring, with no bentonite seals.
MONITORING

The first set of regular monitoring readings ("current data`) were
completed on t+ovember 9 and 10, 1982. The results of pressure transducer
readings are presented in Table 3. Displacement measuring results from the
-1-
GEPNYDRO CONSUUING, fNC.
