1987 ANNUAL HYDROL06IC REPORT
OCTOBER 1986 THRU SEPTEMBER 1987
' INTRODUCTION
' Snowmass' North Thompson Creek Mines continued to be in permanent cessation
during this hydrologic year. Regrading, seeding and mulching at the refuse
pile was co,:ipleted in November 1986. Demolition of all surface facilities
' and the majority of regrading at the mine site and loadout were completed
by the end of the 1987 hydrologic year.
Technical revision TR05, Hydrologic Monitoring Reduction, was approved June
12, 1981. Monitoring on the refuse pile piezometers was reduced to quarterly
field and water level measurements, the mine site piezometers and t he Middle
Thompson Creek monitoring was eliminated and monitoring on North Thompson
' Creek was reduced to biannual quality monitoring.
To maintain the same format for submission of this year's data, the same
appendix numbers are used in this report as were used in previous reports.
' There was no information collected this year for Appendices I and III which
formerly contained climatological data and creek flow data.

SURFACE HATER QUALITY
' Appendix II contains the hydrologic information gathered for North Thompson
Creek and Middle Thompson Creek. Flow information is no longer taken on
the creeks therefore mass balance comparisons cannot be made. The remaining
quality information taken on North Thompson Creek, in May and S eptember,
' is designed to monitor quality at the approximate high and low flow.
' The quality of North Thompson Creek above and below the mine site showed
little decrease in quality as it passed the site this year. In past years,
discharges from the No. 1 Mine and higher discharges from the No. 2 and No.
3 Mines affected the quality more. The quality was generally near or better
' than the pre-permit mean.
Water quality on Middle Thompson Creek was similar to previous monitoring
' results.
' GROUND HATER QUALITY
The results of ground water monitoring during the past year are given in
Appendix IV. Monthly monitoring on holes 3 and 4 at the mine site was
' discontinued due to reclamation of the mine site. These holes were cemented
according to the reclamation plan. The #1 hole that was destroyed in 1986
was not reestablished.
1
