CO 80222-1530 <br />Re: IVlountain Coal Company, LLC, (lvICC), West Elk Mine, CDPS Permit No. CO-0038776, <br />Submittal of DMR Report Form 011 (Page Z) and Submittal of emended and Corrected <br />Biomonitoring Report Form for Outfall 013 for the 3rJ Quarter 1998. <br />Dear Ms. Lenkey: <br />Referencing the Water Quality Control Division's letter of January 27, 1999, and recent telephone <br />conversations with you, attached is a corrected and amended DIvIR for outfall Ol3X, Lone Pine Pipeline <br />for the 3rd quarter of 1998..Also attached is the visual oil and grease DbIR for outfall 011 (page 2) for the <br />3rd quarter. <br />As you may recall from MCC's letter of December 3, 1993, biomonitoring samples were taken for the <br />Lone Pine Gulch Pipeline (outfall 013) in the 3rJ quarter but were inadvertently misplaced. This was <br />discovered at the time the t~iPDES reports for the third quarter were being prepared. Upon discovery, <br />iviCC immediately obtained biomonitoring samples at Outfaii Ol3 and sent them for analysis. IviCC, at <br />the Division's request, is re-submitting an amended 3r° quarter DMR showing [hat the biomonitoring <br />analysis was conducted outside of the 3rd quarter and completed in the -i'b quarter for outfall 013. As was <br />shown in the biomonitoring reports submitted with the 4ih quarter DIv1Rs, both species survived and no <br />toxicity was identified after accelerated testing was conducted.
