Crai Tessmer
SUMMARY
After receiving several complaints from citizens in the Henderson, Colorado area about
having dry wells, staff conducted a interdepartmental investigation of the area to try and
identify where the cause of the problem may be located. The im+esttgatlon team was made
up of staff from Adams County Planning Department, the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology, and the Colorado Division of Water Resources.
It was discovered during this irrvestigation that the M&G Pit ,located approximately 2,500
feet from and in a Southeasterly direction from the affected wells, was dewatered and being
mined dry. The majority of the site approximately 75 acres was dry to a depth of 17 to 25
feet.
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS UPDATE
The Board continued the case so that the operator, Albert Frei & Sons, could develop a plan
to mitigate the wells to Henderson, Colorado. The Board also gave the operator an order to
cease dry mining.
The following two documents are submitted to the Board as exhibits:
1) The Mitigation Plan submitted by Albert Frei & Sons, Inc.
2) Memorandum to the Director, Planning and Development, outlining staffs continuing
investigation of the wells in Henderson including an inspection of the M&G Pit.
FINDINGS OF FACT
1) The water level 1n the M&G Pit has increased to a normal winter level.
2) The vertical hydrological pressure is felt almost immediately across the area influenced
by the past dewatering and the surrounding water table should have increased as the M&G
Pit filled.
3) Mr. Frei of Albert Fret & Sons, Inc. has coordinated with most of the well owners in
Henderson, Colorado.
4) As a result of the refilling of the M&G Ptt, any wells affected should now show
improvement unless there is some other problem with the wells.
R mm n Accept the Mitigation Plan submitte by Albert Frei & Sons, Inc.
along with a stern warning to not deviate from his Design and Operations Plan unless
amended throu due process review.
s i
