Previously, surface Wrens have been mined however mining of
surface areas is complete and these areas !rove been reclaimed and surface areas ore revege[aling. Underground
mines are still being worked. Current production can be 1,000,000 tons per ntor:rh with a maximum of
11,000, 000 tons per year produced and /0, 000, 000 tons per year shipped.
2. Sources to the Treatment System: Sources of wastewater are: surface runoff-both from active mining areas rind
post-mining areas, mine drainage pumped from the underground mine, rind spoils spring water (which may occur
in both active raining areas and post-mining areas). Tire con[ prep p[nnt may use spoils spring water or mine
water as leash writer, which may then be sent to the trennrtent system.
3. Chemicals Used: The permittee did not specify any clternicals for use in waters that Wray be discharged.
Chemicals are used in the prep plant, however these are very trn[ikely to be discharged. No clrernica[s are
specifically approved under t/tis permit. Prior to use ojarty cherrrical that has a likelihood ojbeing discharged,
1lre permittee must submit a request for approval which includes the most current Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS) for t{tot chemical. Also see Parr //.A.1. of the permit.
B. Wastewater Treatment Description
Tire permittee has several sedimentation ponds shat serve to clarify wastewater prior to discharge. Underground rnine
drainage may be prelirrrinarily settled in underground sumps prior to being pumped to the sedimentation ponds. Some
spoils spring flow is intercepted and flows into the sedimentation ponds also.
Pursuant to the authority of Anicle 9, Title 25, Rexulations, for the Certiftrntion o(Water Treatment Plant and
Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators. this facility may require a certified operator. The permittee s)tould contact
the Colorado Plant Operators Certification Board at (303) 692-3550 for further information.
IV.PERFORMANCE H/STORY
A. Monitoring Data
/. Discharge Monitorin,~Reports: Tables /V-1 through /V-9 sumnmrize the effluent data reported on the 24 monthly
Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMR's) for the Co[orndo Yarnpa Conl Company facility from August 1998
through Jrrly 2000. When an outfa[[ did not discharge jar rill 24 monthly reporting periods, This is noted !rt 1lte
table's heading.
