III IIIf IIIIIIIII III Doc Date:1211112001
~~' 2.04.7 HYDROLOGY DESCRIPTION
•
Ground Water Hydrology
The Meadows No. I permit area is located on the east flank of the Hayden
Syncline where three consolidated aquifers are located within the study area.
The three aquifers include the Trout Creek sandstone, water associated with the
Pinnacle Coal seam and the Tow Creek sandstone. The geologic cross-section is
presented on Figure 2.04.7-1 and represents the subsurface geologic charac-
teristics for an area defined on Figure 2.04.7-2.
Thirty-seven drill holes (approximate 400-foot centers) within the permit
•
area did not encounter saturated or perched aquifers; however, drill holes
located downslope to the west of the permit area located water in geologic sec-
tions stratigraphically above the sections located in the permit area. Drill
hole depths and the penetrated strata are listed in Table 2.04.7-I, and repre-
sentative core data are described on Tables 2.04.6-1 and 2.04.6-2. All drill
holes were sealed and cemented above and below the sandstone in order to prevent
ground water quality contamination or water seepage.
Water was generally encountered within the Trout Creek sandstone in drill
holes located down-dip from the recharge area of the sandstone. The Trout Creek
recharge area appears to be located west and down-dip of the permit area.
Elevation of the water encountered was approximately at the top of the sand-
stone; however, documented depth-to-water measurements were not recorded during
the drilling program.
•
-84-
(Rev. 5/86)
