• Larencito Camon Mint - Gealo Techniral R[ rt
All parameters required for analysis were compared with overburden/interburden suitability
ratings developed by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and/or the Montana
Department of State Lands to determine potential limitations relative to revegetation and
hydrologic consideration. Parameters above suitability ratings developed by the Wyoming
Department of Environmental Quality and/or the Montana Department of State Lands are
discussed below:
Ciruela Coal Roof
Table G7 summarizes the analyses of the roof samples.
eleniu
The average selenium concentration was 0.082 mg/Kg with the highest concentration being 0.134
mg/Kg. According to the Wyoming Guidelines, selenium concentrations that exceed 0.1 mg/Kg
are marginal for revegetation. Once this material is mixed with remaining materials the
concentrations will be reduced. Therefore, no problems concerning selenium and revegetation are
anticipated.
• Sodium Adsorption Ratio
The average sodium adsorption ratio was 21.99 with a range of 0.62 to 31.8. According to
Wyoming DEQ Guidelines overburden with SAR values above 15 are not suitable for reclamation
success. Since SAR values exceed 15, a four foot thick layer of top soil cover will be placed over
the overburden and should have a good reclamation suitability.
Ciruela Coal
Table G-8 summarizes the analyses of the Ciruela coal samples. Additional analyses were
conducted on coal seams anticipated to be surface mined. Data for the O, P, Q and N coal seams
are summarized below and presented in Tables G-5 and G-6.
Selenium
The average selenium concentration was 0.080 mg/Kg with the highest concentration being 0.159
mg/Kg. According to the Wyoming Guidelines, selenium concentrations that exceed 0.1 mg/Kg
are marginal for revegetation. Only one sample exceeded 0.1 mg/Kg. Once this material is mixed
with remaining overburden materials the concentrations will be reduced. Therefore, no problems
concerning selenium and revegetation are anticipated.
\J
Geologya75/Decembcr 14. 1996 24
