Page 3
rir. Gordon Hayes
January 29, 1980
2. Amore detnilad description of the seepage cheek dam and cha sediment
pond it impovada is needed. Ie this the entire control method for erosion
and runoff from the mining operation ~•to Deer Creek?
3. There should be no diechar = of water from the mining operation. If there
is, there may ba a necessity for an 2JPDE5 permit.
4. The seeps on thn quarry aitn should be described more thoroughly.
Exhibit R:
1. Asite-specific wildlife evaluation ie needed. This should include the
species commonly found on the site, potential impacts to endangered species
(if any) and the expected overall impact on wildlife due to the quarrying
operation.
3. The local wildlife conservation officer may be of help in this C-'=°rd. The
negative letter of January 19, 1977 from the Divieicn of ~111dlife is mt
helpful in this matter.
Cxhibit I:
1. Row much topsoil of the steep-slope type described is available for recla-
mation? Sdhere is it being stockpiled?
2. If theta .s not enough topsoil available for planned reclamation, t5e sub-
stitute (e.g., overburden or fines) should be carefully analysed as a
potential growth ~+edim.
Fachibit J:
See page 20 in the Rules and Regulations for the site-specific vegetation infor-
mation needed for this exhibit. Once again, the Soil Conservation Service or
the Colorado State Po rest Service may be of assistance is this matter.
Exhibit L:
1. If only 20 of the 75 permitted acres are to be disturbed by the quarr~~~ g
operation, then only these 20 acres need to be bonded. In this case, the
$34,100 reclamation costs given would be an adequate bond amount.
2. If, however, all 75 acres are to be disturbed to some extent (and thus krill
need reclamation), you may wish to onsider defining areas mayor noderate
and ciinor disturbance within the 75 total acres (or a subsection thereof)
and bond each area accordingly (with a floating or non-floating bond).
