The 1 years data provided clearly shows
that groundwater levels in Phase 1 of the mining area stay well below the planned depth to mining. The
peak elevation of 43 feet was noted in Hole 3 located in the Southwest corner during irrigation season.
The irrigation from the adjacent fields is the primary feed for the groundwater and noted to be
discontinued as mining progresses. The elimination of irrigation will further drop the water levels below
proposed excavation levels.
Based on the data collected for the 1-year period it is apparent that there is very little to no chance of
encountering groundwater down to the proposed mining depth of 40 feet. Haldorson and Sons has
further committed to not exposing groundwater regardless of the depth without first obtaining all proper
permits.
Staff is please to inform Lewicki and Associates and Haldorson and Sons that the Stipulation No.2 to
monitor groundwater levels and submit a report outlining the data collection has been met for Phase 1
Further, the condition that mining not exceed the depth of 13 feet is hereby rescinded for Phase 1 as
well.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970.241.1117.
Sincerely, -...
