109 - Midnight - Rombo Taxajunct complex, 30 to 50 percent
slo es . - -
This map unit is on mountain sides, commonly below basalt
dikes. This unit is 45 percent Midnight channery and flaggy
silty clay loam and 45 percent Rombo Taxajunct channery and
flaggy silt clay loam. Midnight soils are near the top of
the mountain side adjacent to basalt dikes. Rombo Taxajunct
soils are on the lower part of the mountain sides. Included
in this unit are Rock Outcrop at the crest of ridges and
on lower slopes. These lands occupy about 15 percent of the
unit.
The Iidnight soil is shallow and well-drained. It formed
• in residuum and colluvium derived dominantly from shale.
Typically the surface layer is channery or flaggy silty clay
loam 4 inches thick. The subsurface layer is vary shaley
clay loam over weathered shah bedrock at a depth of 16
inches. The soil is neutral. The shale bedrock is calcareous
between the seams.
Permeability of the Midnight soil is moderately slow.
Available water capacity is very low. Effective rooting depth
is 16 to 20 inches. Runoff is very rapid and the hazard of
water erosion is very high.
The Rombo Taxajunct soil has moderate permeability and
medium runoff. The erosion hazard is moderate.
