C~
108 - Louviers - Rombo Taxajunct complex, 30 to 65 percent
slopes.
This map unit is on sideslopes, footslopes, and ridges
on the foothills. It is comprised of about 50 percent Louviers
very channery clay loam and 25 percent Rombo Variant stony
clay loam. Louviers and Rombo Taxajunct soils are on very
steep sideslopes. Rombo Taxajunct soils are limited to
north-facing slopes. Included in this unit are 15 percent
Prieta Variant and Fort Collins soils and Rock Outcrop. Prieta
Variant soils occcur on broad ridgetops and have a developed
subsoil. Rock outcrop occ~zrs as bands of sandstone near the
crest of sideslopes. Also included are small areas of Fort
• Collins Variant loam at the base of the sideslopes. The Fort
Collins Variant soils are deep to bedrock.
The Louviers soil is shallow and well-drained. It formed
in residuum and colluvium derived dominantly from
noncalcareous shale. Typically, the surface layer is very
channery clay loam about 4 inches thick. The upper 5 inches
of the substratum is channery clay loam. The lower 5 inches
is shaley clay over shale at a depth of 14 inches. The soil
is neutral to slightly acid in reaction throughout. Shale
fragments range from 10 to 50 percent in this substratum.
Shale bedrock ranges from 10 to 20 inches deep.
Permeability of the Louviers soil is moderately slow.
. Available water capacity is very low. Effective rooting depth
