<br />107 - Louviers - Prieta Variant - Fort Collins Variant <br />complex, 3 to 25 percent slopes. <br />This map unit is on ridgetops and sideslopes in the <br />foothills. This unit is 40 percent Louviers stony loam, 20 <br />percent Prieta Variant loam, and 20 percent Fort Collins <br />Variant loam. Louviers soils are on sideslopes. Prieta Variant <br />soils occur on ridgetops and Fort Collins Variant soils are <br />along drainage bottoms. Included in this unit are 15 percent <br />shallow and very shallow very channery sandy loam soils and <br />Rock Outcrop. Sandier soils occur near the crest of ridges <br />and Rock Outcrop is exposed throughout the unit. <br />The Louviers soil is shallow and well-drained. If formed <br />• in residuum and colluvium derived dominantly from <br />noncalcareous shale. Typically, the surface layer is very <br />channery clay loam about 4 inches thick. The upper 5 inches <br />of the substratum is channery clay loam. The lower 5 inches <br />is shaley clay over shale at a depth of 14 inches. The soil <br />is neutral to slightly acid in reaction throughout. Shale <br />fragments range from 10 to 50 percent in the substratum. <br />Shale bedrock ranges from 10 to 20 inches deep. <br />Permeability of the Louviers soil is moderately slow. <br />Available water capacity is very low. Effective rooting depth <br />is 10 to 20 inches. Runoff is rapid and ha2ard of water <br />erosion is very high. <br />1 <br />
