• It should be noted that St_ ipa comata could not always be easily <br />separated from Stipa neoinexicana as these two species are vegetatively <br />very similar and occur in the same habitat (A'eber 1986). Positive <br />identification can be made when the awned seed are present. Most of the <br />Stlpa plants of the study area had already dropped their seed prior to <br />the study. Only Stipa comata was found in the reference area. Both <br />Stipas were found in the affected area, often nrowing together. <br />Therefore, in the data we report Stipa presence as Stipa spp. <br />2.6 Species Diversity <br />Species diversity was estimated for both <br />area by analyzing the cover data to <br />relative cover of 3 percent or grea <br />first-hit cover data.
