Source: USGS Dcpth to the Water Table in
the Greater Denver Area, Front Range Urban Corridor, Colorado.
The return flow analysis is included in Appendix D for your review. The historic accretions and
depletions for these shares are presented in Table 3.
REPLACEMENT WATER
The origins] plan for the Howe Pit used norriributary well #40512-F as the replacement sowce.
Although this well is located on the Howe Pit site, it will no longer be used as the replacement
source. This nontributary well is now used as the supply source for the scale house at the site.
Lafarge owns 25 Fulton Ditch shaves that will be used to provide replacements from May
through September for the depletions at the Howe Pit. Winter replacements will be supplied from
a lease of reusable effluent from the City of Greeley. A copy of the lease is included in Appendix
E.
The Fulton shares will be diverted from a headgate at the Howe Pit and returned to the South
Platte River at through the dewatering trench.
The lease of 10.9 acre-feet from the City of Greeley will begin in October 1, 2000 artd run until
December 31, 2000 (Table 4). A new policy at the City of Greeley schedules leases to coincide
with the calendar yeaz. A mew lease request for 19.7 acre-feet for 2001 winter replacements will
be submitted prior to the end of the year. The new lease will be submitted to the SEO when it is
received (Table 4).
The point of replacemrnt for the winter water will be Greeley's Wastewater Treatment Plant. In
previous discussions with Bob Stahl, it was agreed that the South Platte River was a live stream
fmm the site to the confluence with the Poudre River, and no water rights will be injured during
the winter months.
WELLS WITHIN 600 FEET
Due to the fact this is an existing site, x11600 foot well waivers have been completed.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
• The annual consumptive use for the Howe Pit mining operation is 44.0 acre-feet.
• A lease fivtrt the City of Greeley and 25 Fulton Ditch shares owned by Lafarge will
provide adequate water to replace all depletions associated with the mining operation.
Page 5
