Temporary Substitute Supply Plan -Line Camp, Montezuma County, SEP 2004, Page 12
an ouffall in the river. The Dolores is a cold-water fishery; discharge temperature regulation may be required,
but the two years indicates that water temperatures in the pit pond remain at or very near river water
temperatures.
During the winter months, gravity flow of water may be halted to protect the pipe from freezing. Water
collecting and flowing through the pit would then be allowed to rise to a stable level and freeze, and then will be
discharged after spring melt. When mining the lower level, no dewatering will be done during the winter months.
Openings will be established and maintained through the berms (stockpiles) around the pit, in case of flooding of
the Dolores River, blockage of the pipe, or other events which might cause a surface discharge, to minimize
erosion, sedimentation, and traffic problems. As necessary, stockpiles niay have perimeter ditches/swales and
berms with silt fence, straw bales, or rock check dams, to reducelpreveritsediment in any runoff to the river.
The Home Ditch (which diverts water from the Dolores River upstream of the site) is located along the west
edge of the permit area, outside the proposed pit boundaries, and formerly conveyed irrigation water to pasture
areas now being mined. As part of reclamation, the ditch will be routed Into the three ponds and will continue to
be capable of providing water to areas above and below the ponds.
