Oehler September 8, 1997 Environmental Protection Specialist Division of Minerals and Geology Dept. of Natural Resources 1313 Sherman St., Room 215 Denver, CO 80203 RE:iInformal Conference Agile Stone Systems, Inc., Parkdale Project, ii2- erml pp ication, File No. M-97-054 Dear Mr. Oehler: In response to your letter of September 4, 1997, Clean Water Action, a national non-profit citizens' advocacy group for the environment with over 70,000 members in Colorado, wishes to go on record against the permit requested by Agile Stone Systems for the following reasons: (1) Agile Stone Systems plans to use 30,000 gallons of water per day to wash down the dust from the gravel pit operation. We don't think this is a good use of a limited resource in the West. Where is this water to come from and who has the senior and junior rights to this water? (2) We are also concerned about the impact of contamination and silt on the trout population in Tallahassee Creek as well as the impact of constant blasting on the nearby Big Horn Sheep herds during the lambing season. We are not opposed to all gravel pit operations. However, we are opposed to this particular operation because of its location and potential impact on water quality and wildlife.
