Mr. Jim P1cArdle•
February 17, 1984
Page 2
The soil removed from the site will be stored in b rms
to run parallel to the highway. These are depicte on
the plats which have previously been furnished. A the
areas are reclaimed, the soil will be moved from t e
berms back onto the mined land and seeded. It is nti-
cipated that it will take no more than two to four days
to move sufficient soil back onto and seed the aff cte
areas. Seed will be broadcasted. Reclamation wil be
done acre by acre, as the mining operation progres es.
Parcel A will be mined and reclaimed west to east. Parcel
B will be mined and reclaimed south to north.
Some of the soil stockpiles will last more than on grow-
ing season. The Schmahls will be seeding these st ckp_iles
with annual rye during the period of this temporar
stabilization. It is estimated that less than 20 ounds/
AC. PLS at a cost of approximately $6.00 per acre ill be
needed. This grass will be cut annually before Ju e to
prevent it from going to seed. We do not anticipa e using
topsoil, as we believe that there is enough reclai able
soil to provide a depth of three to six inches at eclama-
tion.
The vegetation inventories previously submitted by Soil
Conservation Service are for all sections, not mer ly Section
10. I have verified this with the Soil Conservati n Service.
With regard to the estimated cost for reclamation,
estimated that a backhoe or other grading equipmen
cost approximately $75 per day, with one to two da
required per acre. The cost of seed per acre is d
in the attached exhibit. It is estimated that apc
one ton of straw mulch will be required per acre.
straw mulch will cost less than $100 per ton. 0th
are estimated to be minimal, perhaps totalling $10
per acre.
it is
will
s
scribed
oximately
We believe
r costs
to $200
The previously submitted exhibits labelled Operation Plan
for Parcels A and B, as well as my previous corres ondence,
has set out the minimum acreage to be disturbed.
