IIHR 76-7, 110 Permit Application.
DATE: June 23, 1977
~II II~II~II~~~~~ ~I~
The following is an outline of the 110 application to be presented for your considera-
tion at the June 23, 1977 Board meeting.
OPERATOR'S NAME AND ADDRESS: DFC Ceramics, Inc.
PO Box 110
Canon City, Colorado 81212
SURFACE b MINERAL OIdNERS: The Colorado Board of Land Cottmtissioners own; both the
surface and mineral rights.
ADJACENT LANDOWNER: The Colorado Land Board was notified and expressed no objections.
LOCAL GOVERNMENT APPROVAL: A letter in our file from the Jefferson Cowtty Board of
County Commissioners states that the county has no regulations concerning
clay mining, so will accept the decision and management of the Pained Land
Reclamation Board.
SIZE OF AFFECTED LANDS: 9 acres
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The site is located 1 1/2 miles north of Golden ott the east
facing slope of the hogback west of Highway 93.
TYPE OF MINING OPERATION: This is a clay operation along the steeply dipping forma-
tions of the hogback. An exposed highwall is already in existence here from
the clay mining down through the past many decades. The operation will be
small - approximately 250 tons per year.
TIMETABLE OF OPERATION: About 600'-800' of already exposed face is mined each year
during a few week period.
RECLAMATION PLAN: The benches which result from the mining will be graded with a
slight downward slope toward the highwall to retain moisture. There is no
topsoil on these old mining areas so the surface will be scorified, seed, and
mulched per the recommendations of the SCS included in the file.
WILDLIFE: Limited to small mammals and occasional deer and antelope. There will be
very little change in the topography which exists there now as well as the
sparse vegetation so the affect on wildlife will be zero to minimal.
