Gentlemen: I am writing this letter to express my feelincs rerardinQ thy. future mining operations of the Castle Concrete Company in t'ie Colorado 3prinQS area. :1s you are well aware t!~ere is a small, but very vocal and out- spoken, group of local residents stron~l,y opposed to further operation of Castle's minin,q operations. This group of opponents state that Castle's mining destroys the beauty of the front range, creates dust, and lowers property verlues. It is true that the areas being mined by Castle are unsightly. dowever, these areas represent only a small portion of the Cront range visible in the Colorado Snrinos arra. The dust objected to is only present in areas around F:anitou Snrin~s where the~~e are a large number of dirt roads having ~hc same color as the rock being mined by Castle. Therefore, 1 do not believe that the dust problem is 100; attributable to Castle. As far as prop~rt,y values are concerned, there are very few places anywhere where values are increasing as fast as they are here, including areas close to the present mining operations. I think it is very important that you consider how imoortant Castle Concrete is to this region. This regions economy is strongly dependent both directly and indirr~ctly up~~n Castle Concrete. The direct contribution to the eGOnomy by a company the size of Castle Concrete ie obvious. Castle Concrete's mining operation; are the sole source of the moat basic ingredient of the regions largest industry, construction. Also, it should be noted t!iat materials mined by Castle are used in many beautiful things in
