Enviromnental Assessment Bowie Resources, LLC.
August 2005 Spmce Stomp Fedeml Coal Exploration License (150- 200543)
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -S would be accessed from a new temporary road 0.02 miles in
length and 30 feet wide, from existing non - system road U803. Road U803 is the maintenance
access route for the Western Power Authority's Powerline. The pad would be constructed on the
west side of U803 in an open area. U803 would require recondition to afford access by the drill
rig and support vehicles.
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -8 would be accessed from a new temporary road 0.15 miles in
length and 30 feet wide, from existing non - system road U803 and NFSR 842. The pad would be
constructed east of U803 in an open area. The pad would be cleared with a minimum amount of
topsoil disturbance to aid in reclamation. Oak brush would be left on sides of the road to provide
a view shed buffer. U308 and NFSR 842 would require reconditioning to afford drill rig and
support vehicle access.
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -9 would be accessed from a new temporary road crossing
private land with 0.15 miles of 30 -foot roadway on NFS land. The access road begins from a
private road and travels up the east side of the ridge onto NFS land.
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -10 would be accessed from existing NFSR 842 and non - system
road U803. The pad would be constructed on the west side of U803. Both access roads would
need reconditioning to afford drill rig and support vehicle access.
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -11 would be accessed from existing classified NFSRs 701 and
824. The pad would be constructed on the west side of NFSR 824. NFSR 842 would need
reconditioning to afford drill rig and support vehicle access.
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -12 would be accessed from a new temporary road 0.01 miles in
length and 30 feet wide, from existing classified NFSR 824. The pad would be constructed on
the east side of NFSR 824.
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -13 would be accessed from a new temporary road 50 feet in
length and 30 feet wide, from existing classified NFSRs 703 and 703.213. Both these roads
would need reconditioning to afford drill rig and support vehicle access. The pad would be
constructed on the curve of NFSR 703.213. A zone of trees would be left to provide a view shed
buffer.
Exploration Drill Hole PRP -SS -15 would be accessed from a new temporary road 0.20 miles in
length and 30 feet wide, east from existing classified NFSR 703.213. Oak brush would be left on
both sides of the road to provide a view shed buffer.
Access and Road System Impacts
The improvement of existing roads and the construction of temporary roads on the SSCEL are
allowed activities under the GMUG Forest Plan (GMUG 1991) and are consistent with the
USDA -FS direction, including the recently established Interim GMUG Travel Restrictions
(GMUG 2001). Under the Proposed Action, the drilling of eleven exploration holes would be
facilitated through the improvement of 6.4 miles of existing roads (NFSRs 701.1A, 703, 703.213,
and 824 and non - system road U803), and the construction of one mile of temporary roads. There
would be no allowed public access to new temporary roads constructed to access exploration
holes. Public use of existing USDA -FS roads would be limited during project activities.
3 -30
