Present aT the inspection were Kate Pickford, DMG, and Jack Allen and Jimmy
Crovener, Allen Drilling and Excavating Co., Inc. Weather at The time of the inspection was clear, calm,
and approximately 70 degrees.
2. This inspection resulted from questions raised by the objectors as to whether the monitoring wells
installed at the site, to determine the groundwater level, were installed in the locations where they were
proposed. Three monitoring wells were proposed by the Applicant during the adequacy review
process. Monitoring wells were proposed to be located in the southwest comer of the site, in the
northeast corner of The site and along the eastern boundary of the site approximately half way
between The northeast and the southeast corners. Prior to this inspection, Mr. Allen had installed an
additional, fourth, monitoring well. During this inspection, all of the monitoring wells were Located,
visited, and groundwater levels measured.
3. Monitoring wells observed during the inspection are numbered, located, and contain groundwater
levels as follows:
• MH-l, located in the southwest comer of the site, water level: 16 feet.
• MH-2, located in the southeast comer of the site, water level: 21 (well is dry).
• MHO, located along the eastem boundary, approximately half way between the northeast and the
southeast corners of the site, water level: 16 feet.
• MH-4, located approximately 150 feet south of the northern boundary of the site, water level 14 feet 1 1
inches.
4. The well proposed to be installed in the northeast corner of the site was intended fo detect
groundwater levels relative to The wetlands located in the northeast corner of the permit area. This
wetland, although located with the proposed permit area, will not be directly affected during the
mining activity. The originally proposed well was not installed at The site. The fourth well That was
installed by Mr. Allen, however, is oriented relative to the portion of the wetland outside of the proposed
permit boundary to adequately determine the groundwater level related to the adjacent wetland.
5. The Division's opinion is that although not all of the original monitoring wells installed at the site coincide
with the proposed locations, the three original wells and the additional fourth well adequately cover
the site to indicate that the groundwater level is at least 2 feet below the proposed mining depth of 10
feet.
18.
