r III IIIII ~
IIIIIIIIlII
REVEGETATION GUIDELIP7E'S
1. kfter earth disturbance operations the following steps are needed:
A. Side elopes should be flatter than 3:1. Slopes of 6:1 or
flatter are much more desirable for greater success in
re-establishment of vegetation and operation of equipment.
B. Excess tirater from adjacent areas should not be allowed to
flow onto the area unless erosion control practices are
implemented.
C. Length of slope should be properly controlled to prevent
erosion,.
D. Topsoil is needed on sites having exposed soil surfaces
low in organic material and texture classification of
clay loeun or heavier. This need increases significantly
if the soils are inherently dry, if the slopes are
greater than 6:1 and if the slope aspect is south or
southwest. Topsoil should be applied after shaping and tilled
to a depth of 6 inches binding topsoil to existing soil.
2. Fertilization
A. Fertili:aer of not less than 40 lbs, nitrogen end 40 lbs.
phosphorous should be applied unless a soil analysis indicates
sufficient amounts of these elements. Application o£
fertilisers should be immediately prior to or at the time
of seed:uig.
Seedbed Preioeration
A. The seedbed should be prepared Arior to seeding see seedinE
recommendations). If the area is to be left bare for longer
than a :few months, a temporary cover should be established.
B. All rocks, trash and other debris that will interfere with
seeding should be removed. Till the ground to a depth of
4 to 6 inches. If the seedbed is prepared imr.~ediately
following construction this operation can usually be omitted,
except on fresh cut areas that have not otherwise been
disturbed. Apply fertilizer, seed and mulch, if needed.
4. Mulching
A. A mulch may be needed to conserve moisture, prevent
crusting, reduce runoff and erosion and help establish
a plant cover.
B. Mulching material should be applied immediately before or
after seeding.
C. Either one of the mulching methods listed below would be
acceptable.
