i•
Abstract
7n tip and August 1980, and January 1981, Gordon & Kranzush,
Inc. conducted an intensive cultural resources inventory of approxi-
mately 350 acres of coal exploration and lease areas in Jackson
County, Colorado which are now contained within the proposed Canadian
Strip 24ine Extension Permit Boundaries. The work was performed at
the request of Wyoming Fuel Compares. Two historic localities (5 Ja1,86
and 4$8) and five aboriginal isolated finds (5 ,]x378, 380r 381, 459,
and L,87 were recorded, and a previously recorded site (5 JA163) was
briefly visited by G&IC. None of the resources recorded by G&R are
deemed eligible for National Register of Historic Places nomination.
and though three of the isolated finds lie within areas slated for
direct impact from mine pit construction, this impact - and arm in-
direct impacts threatened from blasting or disturbance - are not
considered to be adverse. There appears to be contradictory data on
file regarding the results of reconiation and significance assess-
ment for the previously recorded 5 JA163, and GddS recommends a com-
plete reinvestigation of the site surface to determine the necessity
far further mitigation of the possible indirect impacts threatened
by increased activity in the site area and blasting nearby. No
tlu~ther work is recocmmended for the historic localities or aboriginal
isolated finds.
C~
