~ • documentation on Colorado Preservation Office resource forms is considered
to be adequate for the preservation of the informational content of these
cultural remains.
In order to clear up possible confusion regarding the significance of
the previously recorded 5 JA163, it is recommended that the site surface be
reinvestigated and a final determination regarding the need for avoidance or
testing mitigation measures be made. Othenrise, the 1979 recommendations
(Anderson and Bleacher 197935) should be followed.
Insomuch as implementation of the above-stated reinvestigation and~or
mitigation measures will avert adverse impacts to a potentially significant
cultural resource (5 JA163), it is recommended that, contingent upon compli-
ance with said measures, Wyoming Fuel Company, d.b.a. Sigma Mininvp Corpora-
tion, be allowed to proceed with the development of the Canadian Strip Mine
Extension in the areas investigated by Gordon & Hr~anzush, Inc. (Figure 2)
as planned. In the event that subsurface cultural deposits be encountered
during project related ground disturbances, work should be halted until the
appropriate government agencies have been notified and the proper treatment
• of any such finds is ensured. It should also be noted that Wyoming Fuel
Company must solicit concurrence from the Colorado State Historic Preserva-
tion Officer regarding the significance assessments of resources presented
in this report before proceeding with the planned development.
•
-12-
