Fol]owing backfill placement in the East Pit, topsoil
•~ will be distributed to a depth of 18 inches, and the areas will
~ be revegetated using the approved seed mixture.
,3
E.3.1.2 West Pit
y
J
As shown on Figure C-2, the West Pit will be mined in
~~ an irregular configuration. As part of the mining, the pit will
'i be constructed with several wide benches separated by a series
of highwalls and narrower benches. In most cases, a maximum
height of 45 ft of bench highwall configuration will be
maintained between wide benches. Wildlife access to the
postmining West Pit area will be maximized through the use of
land shaping techniques. Such land shaping will include manmade
talus slopes placed at an angle of repose and walked with a
dozer to ensure stability. These slopes will allow access
between benches for wildlife and will be placed at irregular
intervals throughout the pit. In addition, several of the
access ramps from bench to bench will be left in place to
create a different type of access.
Topsoil will be replaced on the wide benches to a depth
of 18 inches. and these areas will be seeded with the
reclamation ;-eed mixture in accordance with the procedures
• outlined in Section.E.2. Figure F-2 shows the approximate post
'~ mining contours for.the West Pit area.
~~
;;
Upon completion of mining, the South Pit wall will be
approximately 100 ft from the Rito Seco. All of the oit walls,
with the exception of the south wall of the West Pit, have been
determined to be stable subsequent to mining in their as-mined
configuration. To ensure long-term stability of the south wall
of the West Pit, a rock buttress will be constructed composed
of interburden waste rock material. The preliminary buttress
design is shown on Figure E.3.1-2.
E-10 (Revised 4!70/89)
Q
