• shrub cover between 9.6 and 4.4~• Succulents comprised a
small percentage of the total cover (0.1~ or less on all
_ types) and cover by annuals varied from 12.7 on the big
sagebrush type to 1.6~ on the mountain shrub type.
Cover estimates as summarized in Table 3 show that more
bare ground was exposed in the big sagebrush type (14.90
than the remaining types which had bare ground ranging from
7.2~ to 11.5. Mountain shrub - north facing slopes had
the highest litter-rock cover (70.4;0 and big sagebrush had
the lowest (63.80 .
Cover data for each transect is in Appendix B. Tables
4 and 5 list means, standard deviations, number of samples
taken and number of samples needed to meet suggested sample
_• adequacy for vegetative cover and vegetation cover plus
- litter-rock, respectively.
- The required level of sample adequacy for vegetative
cover was attained for all types except for big sagebrush.
_ Vegetative cover plus litter-rock was attained for this type,
_ however (Table 5). A minimum of 90~ confidence limits were
imposed for the cover data. The actual probabilities of
detecting a ten percent reduction in vegetative cover from
1981 data are summarized in Table 6. Table 7 lists the
confidence levels reached for vegetation cover plus
litter-rock.
•
- 18 -
