• Attachment 4
Attachment 4 answers the following comment on page 16:
Section 2.05.5, Postmining Land Use, (2) Underground
Mining Activities
Comment
On page II.J-8 the applicant mentions that they plan _
to improve the postmining land use, as compared to
premining, but no specifics on how the land use will
be improved are included. This section of the Colorado
permanent regulatory program should be carefully re-
viewed and the postmining land-use portion of the ap-
plication resubmitted.
Response
• Following the reclamation of the Deserado Mine the post-
mining land use will be improved as compared to the present range
condition. Illustration 25, Range Site Evaluation, presents a
comparison of sampled vegetation data and SCS range site des-
cription potentials. This evaluation strongly indicates that
the range condition on the permit areas has declined by winter
sheep grazing. The potentials do indicate, however, that the
range is capable of supporting a more diverse and productive
rangeland in the absence of such grazing pressure.
The assertion that the range condition will improve following
mining activities is predicated on two key factors: 1) the imple-
mentation of the revegetation plan as indicated in Section J,

Ti.1 - l~
