Memo - Berhan Keffelew - 2 - April 5, 1991
accommodating 10 square mile watershed runoff, the required cross-sectional
area of these drains never reached as large as 8' x 16'.
Finally, our regulations and those of the OSMRE both require that the design
of a refuse waste disposal structure include appropriate underdrain
facilities. Neither set of regulations specify the extent of the design
processed to be completed in designing the underdrain component of a refuse
structure. When an underdrain is proposed with an 8' x 16' cross section, I
consider the sizing adequate, unless an unusual hydrologic situation is known
to exist at the structure site. I did not consider New Elk's hydrologic
situation unique, and therefore did not find it to warrant the completion of a
specific underdrain design analysis.
/ern
cc: Steve Renner
Mike Savage
Doc No: 4657E
