EXHIBIT "A" A brief general description of the location of proposed operation: This open mining operation is located in the Morth ~ of Section 15, Township 4 South, Range 70 west of the 6th P.M., within the city limits of Golden, Colorado. Approximately 200 acres of land is owned by Specification Aggregates, Inc., in fee simple. Pwo Depart- ment of the Interior United States Geological Survey Maps of Morrison Quadrangle, Colorado are submitted with this application. One of the maps marked "Exhibit A-1" is a Topographic Map and the other marked "Exhibit A-2" is a Geology Map. Upon each of these maps the property owned by Specification Aggregates, Inc. is located and the area af- fected by the mining operation is indicated within the property lines. It's use during the mining operation will be for processing, stockpile, offic=_, scale, and shop facilities. This area is designated as Parcel 1 on "Exhibit B" map, is an affected area, and is included in the eventual reclama- ~o- tion plan. Most of the remaining two-thirds of the land 's raversed ~~~tG'~ ~ three sharp ridges, with the tops of the idaes running from the l~~, Northeast to t and rising from an elevation cf 6,400 fe` o aaaroximately 6,950 feet in distance of 3,000 fee_~ The geology in~cated by the U.S. Geological Survey, "Exhibit A-2", is Precambrion Crystalline Rock, which is generally exposed ~n the sur- face throughout most of the area. Of the three ridges only the two sn„thern most will be subject to open mining and these arias are de- signated as Parcel 2, Parcel 3, and Parcel 4 on "Exhibit .3" Map. At mining opera inn. The adjoining ridge to the South will be the site of the proposed future open mining operation. Extraction of the com- mercial aggregates from these two ridges, totaling 85.19 acres, is the basis of the reclamation plan and ultimate land use. This property is characterized by it's lack of both surface and sub- surface water, deficient top soil, and sparce vegetation. All ex- isting structures are several hundred feet from any proposed open mining, all electric power transmission facilities within the area are for the singular use of the operation, telephone lines, for the most part, are underground and none within the open mining area, and there are no natural gas transmission lines. An examination of "Exhibit A-1" map, showing the topography of the land reveals that the surface water runoff is generated in a relatively small drainage area, which is primairly limited to Section 15, and some of the eastern part of Section 16. The topography West of Section 15 diverts the runoff from the West either into Mount Vernon Canyon to the South of the area or into Apex Gulch to the North of the area, precluding the possibility of serious runoff water errosion problems within the affected area.
