Pavlik
Environmental Protection Specialist
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Notice of Intent to Explore for Coal No. X-96-219-01,
Cottonwood Land Company, CDOW resposnse.
Dear Ms. Pavlik:
This letter is to follow up on the June 16 correspondence
addressing completeness and adequacy issues of the above
referenced Notice of Intent.
Attached is a review from the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
Please note that several sites have been identified by Mr.
Haskins as being located within critical habitat for Sage Grouse.
He has recommended that these sites not be occupied during the
time frame of March 15 to July 1. Mr. Haskins did verbally
communicate to me that if any of the referenced sites need to be
drilled during these time frames, that he would personally
inspect the locations. After his site inspection, he may write a
site specific authorization letter if his findings warrant. I
would request that this option be incorporated within the CDMG
stipulations.
Class III archeology surveys have been completed on 95 of the 97
drill locations and access corridors. This report will be
forwarded to your office as soon as it becomes available.
Cottonwood Land Company appreciates the assistance the Division
has provided in the preparation of this Notice. Please feel free
to call with any questions you may have.
Sincerely,
Richard D. Tifft, III
