Cattany
Craig, CO 81626 Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
Re: Trapper Mine, C-81-010, Fourth Quarter 2004 Sediment Pond Inspection Reports
Dear Mr. Mattem:
The Division has reviewed Trapper Mining Inc.'s fourth quarter 2004 sediment pond inspection reports. the
Division received TMI's fourth quarter 2004 sediment pond reports on December 2, 2004. Timely
submittal of these reports is incompliance with Rule 4.05.9(17). Sediment pond inspections were
conducted by TMI on October 6`h, 8'h, 12th, and 13th, 2004.
The majority of the ponds were dry during the Fourth quarter inspection. No Name No. 5 was discharging
at the NPDES point at the time of inspection. Middle Flume No. 3 was in the process of sediment clean-
out at the time of the inspection. Water from Middle Flume No. 3 pond was pumped to Middle Flume No.
1 pond. Middle Flume No. 1 pond was not discharging.
Constmction for West Horse Pond was completed during 3rd quarter 2004. The fourth quarter sediment
pond inspection stated that the pond identification sign and sediment control marker needed to be placed at
West Horse Pond No. 1. Mr. Frank Self, of TMI, sent an electronic mail message to the DMG on
December 13, 2004, stating that he had installed the sediment marker and identification sign at the West
Horse pond. Asterisks were recorded on the West Pyeatt No. 1 inspection report form regarding sediment
level and sediment marker, but no information regarding these asterisks was noted. Please provide detail
regarding the information for these two portions of the West Pyeatt No. 1 inspection report. The sediment
marker on Sage No. 2 pond needs to be re-set. No significant problems with the ponds were reported for
Fourth quarter 2004.
Sincerely,
Janet in s
nviro~ ntal Protec ion Specialist
C:/jhb/C81010/Sediment Pond Inspection/2004 Fourth q.doc
Cc: Dan Hernandez, DMG
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
