Gener- <br />ally, February and May are the windiest months. Strong winds <br />during the spring cause rapid drying of the soil surface. <br />Relative humidity is low. The sun shines approximately 75 <br />percent of the time during the year. <br />3. Native (Climax Potential} Vegetation <br />a. <br />b <br />The plant community is about 75 percent grasses, 10 percent <br />forbs, and 15 percent shrubs air d,ry weight. <br />The production is predominantly made up of grasses. <br />The dominant grasses are short grasses and most abundant of the <br />grasses are blue grams, little bluestem, sideoats grams, hairy <br />grams, black grams, big bluestem, and western wheatgrass. Less <br />abundant grasses are needleandthread, New Mexico feathergrass, <br />bottlebrush squirreltail, galleta and yellow Indiangrass. Forbs <br />that make up the plant community are purple prairie clover, <br />scarlet globemallow, spreading eriogonum, wooly locoweed, dotted <br />gayfeather and threadleaf groundsel. <br />.` <br />Shrubs that occur on this site are fringed sagebrush, foutwing <br />saltbush, Gambel oak, small soapweed, plains pricklypear, skunk- <br />bush sumac, broom snakeweed, and true mountainmahogany.
