Road 53 were superior to, or equal to the B and C horizons
• (Tables 3 and 4). The Routt soil series A horizon was rated
excellent. The B horizon was rated poor in soils north of the
county road but was rated good in soils south of the county
road. It appears that the A horizon of the Routt soils series
would be excellent for use as topsoil in reclamation.
The Royal Variant Complex received a good rating on the A
horizon on soils south of the county road and a fair rating on
soils north of the county road. The B horizon received ratings
from poor to fair.
The Skylick loam A horizon had a fair rating and the B horizon
had a poor rating.
The unnamed sandy loazn A horizon had a rating of excellent for
the A and B1 horizon, a fair rating for the B2t # and B3Ca
horizons, and a poor rating for the Cca horizon.
• The Winevada-Splitro Complex received an excellent rating on the
A1, B1, and B2 horizons and a good rating on the B3 and C
horizons.
Based on soil description depths, it appears that there is suf-
ficient high quality topsoil for all reclamation needs. Suggested
soil stripping depths are illustrated on the soil survey map
located in the appendix (Exhibit T, Volume II).
The Routt loam appears to be chemically and physically superior
when comparing soil series. This is the predominant soil series
in the proposed active mining area and comprises approximately
570 acres of the permit area.
The expected quality of redressed topsoil (A horizon) would
have approximately the following characteristics. It would be a
dark brown silty clay loam with moderate fine to medium sub-
angular blocky structure. It would be slightly acid to slightly
' alkaline, noncalcareous and have an organic matter content of
approximately 2-3 percent.
