<br />Ponderosa Pine-Douglas Fir-Oak Vegetation Type <br />Affected Area <br />uercus gambelii was the cover dominant shrub (5.1%) (Table 5). <br />A11 other species occurring had cover values less than 1%. Cover <br />dominant grasses were Carex spp. (0.9%), Muhlenbergia montana (0.8`x), <br />and Koeleria cristata (0.7%). Important fortis were Fragaria ovalis <br />(0.6%) and Thalictrum fendleri (0.5%). Moss averaged 0.7% cover. <br />Total plant cover averaged 11.6%, cover by litter and rock was 79.4%, <br />and by plant-litter-rock was 91.0%. Bare ground averaged 14.7%. <br />Sample adequacy for cover was met at 13 samples, and 18 were obtained <br />(Table 2). <br />Grass and sedge plants were the most productive species (Table <br /> <br />6). Koeleria cristata produced 1.2 gms/mz, and Carex spp. 1.1 gms/m2. <br />Muhlenbergia montana produced 0.7 gms/mz, Aaropyron spp. 0.6 gms/mz, <br />and Danthonia ap rryi 0.5 gms/mz. Fortis were low producers. Total <br />production averaged 6.9 gms/mz. Sample adequacy was met at 13 samples, <br />18 were obtained (Table 2). <br />Shrub density was dominated by Quercus ambelii (1.5 shrubs/mz, <br />or 35%) (Table 7). Ribes inerme had 1.4 shrubs/mz, or 320, and <br />Cercocarpus montanus had 1.1 shrubs/mz, or 26%. Average shrub density <br />was 4.4 shrubs/m2. <br />Pinus ponderosa was the most dense tree, at 240 trees/ha, or <br />20`0 of all trees (Table 1), followed by Pseudotsuga menziesii at 160 <br />trees/ha, or 13%. P. menziesii had the highest sapling density, at <br />260 trees/ha, or 21%, and P. ponderosa had a sapling density of 180 <br />trees/ha, or 15%. Total tree and sapling density was 1,220 trees/ha. <br />• <br />
