The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining 999
P&M Coal P.O. Box 176
The Edna Mine Oak Creek Co 80467
Mr. Jeff Clapton /y/^ 3 1989 6/21/89
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation D4E>;wh4'1D NO
Room She1313 rman Street O/y 0/y1S1C7N
Denver, Colorado 80203-2273
Dear Mr. Clapton,
P&M personell conducted a rill and gulley survey of the West Ridge
area on 6/9/89 and 6/12/89. The purpose of this survey was to identify
areas needing repair from rill and gulley activity, and to satisfy
the requirements of a rill and gulley plan set forth in the mine' s
permit. Following are observations made during this survey. Also
enclosed is an aerial photo showing locations discussed below.
The rill and gulley test plot was walked. No active gulleying was
evident and locations where prior rilling had taken place were well
vegetated.
Additional observations were made that are listed below along with
measures P&M intends to take.
1) Minor rills were observed at the southern end of the topsoiled
patch lying east of the pond access road in the West Ridge area.
P&M intends to repair these areas with vegetation and topsoil mix
that will be pulled from the West Ridge crest. This action was taken
last year and appears to have worked well at stabilizing other rilled
areas. These repaired rills will be reseeded this fall .
2) Some cutting was observed in the non-topsoiled area paralleling the
haul road in the West Ridge area. This area has expressed itself
as a water coarse in the past. Some dozer work will be performed in
this area for smoothing and the area will be seeded this fall .
3) At the time of the survey, routine cleaning was being performed on
the West Ridge ditch leading to the sediment pond (NPDES 003) . This
work was completed on 6/20/89,
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me
at the Edna Mine.
Sincerel ,
01
u1f David Beverlin
Resident Engineer
ASUBSIDIARV OF GULF OIL COPORATION TELEPHONE (303) 736-8111
