CO 80203-2273
RE: Edna Mine, 2005 Third Quarter Impoundment Report and Annual Certification of Impoundments
Dear Mr. Walker:
This letter constitutes the Third Quarter 2005 Impoundment Inspection Report and the Annual
Certification of Impoundment for the Edna Mine. The Impoundment Location Map (Attachment A)
details the location of each impoundment inspected. Quarterly Pond Inspection Reports (Attachment B)
document water level, sediment level, outflow, and required maintenance cited per inspection. Center
Ridge Pond, Moffat Pond, West Ridge Pond, and West Ridge Check Dam Structures nine (9) through
twenty-one (21) are certified annually (Attachment C) with regard to structure and sediment level
capacity in accordance with the Edna Mine Permit (#C-80-001).
The inspections were performed on September 21, 2005 by field inspector Troy Summers. The
annual certifications have been signed by Colorado Professional Engineer Doyl Fritz (#11589). All
structures were functioning as designed at inspection. Although the function of the check dams has been
considered adequate, numerous check dams require minor maintenance to restore the structures original
design. These repairs have been noted on the appropriate Quarterly Pond Inspection Report. To comply
with a request by Byron Walker of the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, check dams three (3)
through eight (8), which have previously been released from bond, will also require minor maintenance.
Minor maintenance has been scheduled during the 2005 maintenance season. Should you have any
questions regarding this material, please contact me at your convenience.
Sincerely,
r d~ ~~~-R1)~----
Beth Heesen, P.G.
Project Manager
TNS
Attachments (A, B & C)
cc: Steve Leach
Edna Mine Permit
K\P&M COeI\Edn Mine\1999-144LV2epoetsVmpoundmems\2005Urd Quarter\CDMG_10p505.doc
