STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURALRESOURGES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
OAYID C. SHELTON, Dkector
DATE: May 28, 1987
T0: Jordan or Jone Burdick
FROM: Carl B. Mount
RE: File No. M-87-042
Adequacy Items
The following items must be addressed by the applicant in order to satisfy the
applicable requirements of C.R.S. 34-32-101 et seq. Mineral Rules and
Regulations of the Mined Land Reclamation Board-
Exhibit C - Mining Plan
1. We suggest you also use a rhizomatous grass along with the crested
wheatgrass for seeding the topsoil stockpiles. Western wheatgrass
would work well for this. Please indicate what you will use for
seeding the topsoil stockpile and the rate at which the seed will be
spread.
Exhibit D - Reclamation Ptan
1. How will erosion of replaced topsoil be controlled if no mulch will
be used? The SCS soils information indicates that the hazard of
erosion is severe (the highest erosion rating possible) on the
Pinata - Rock outcrop complex which you have indicated on your map
to be the dominant soils group on the proposed permit area. We
suggest that you use two tons per acre of native grass hay or straw
spread and crimped into the replaced topsoil following seeding.
Please indicate your plans.
2. If seed is broadcast, the seeding rate you have supplied must be
doubled and the seedbed must be raked or harrowed to cover the
seed. Please indicate your plans.
3. Our calculations indicate that it would cost the State the amount
shown below to reclaim the site according to your reclamation plan:
a. Backfill of highwall to slopes of flatter
than 3H:1V (assumed: 1.1 15' highwall x 500' long
equals 6,250 cubic yards needed; 2.) maximum waste rock
push = 150')
6250 cu. yds. x 5.395/cu. yd .....................E2,468.75
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203.2273 Tel.
