•
EXHIBIT B-SITE DESCRIPTION
The proposed harvesting site is an existing talus slope containing angular rocks. The depth of the
rock in the field is variable ranging from 1 to 20 feet. The slope ranges from 40 to 60 percent
with flatter terrace like slopes that range from 20 to 30 percent. The surface of the rubble slope
consists of lineaz ridges, scarps, and elongate depression features. These, typically have relief of
several tens of feet and lengths of many of feet. The ridge structures are roughly parallel to the
slope. The permeability of the talus slope is described as moderate with rates ranging from 61 to
100 inches per minute. Fir trees and shrubs exist within the talus slope with grasses and moss
under the trees if soil has accumulated. The talus slope generally does not have any topsoil
exposed. No geologic problems are expected; (See Attached Report).
A single family home lies below the proposed harvesting area along the toe of the slope adjacent
to County Road 3. The owner of the home is Leonard Lamb. A second home and shed are
located below the access road adjacent to County Road 3. The owner of the home is Robert
Conger. The overhead electric line is owned by Holy Cross Electric Association. County Road 3
lies to the south of the proposed harvesting area and is owned by Gunnison County. The phone
line on the south side of County Road 3 is owned by U S West.
The Crystal River drains the area of the harvesting site. Two small lakes, Island Lake and an
unnamed Department of Wildlife fishing pond, lie in the floodplain of the river. These ponds are
not witlun 200 ft. of the permit boundary. A well is located on the lower portion of the property
owned by Robert Raymond. A list of permitted wells in Sections 27 and 28 is attached. Flow and
water quality data for the Crystal River at Redstone are also included. The deer and bighorn sheep winter ranges are not on
the site. The operation does not impact the winter range as the harvesting activities occur when
there is no snow on the ground. The Department of Wildlife has been contacted for input on any
impacts on habitat and reclamation recommendations. The Department of Wildlife has indicated
that the proposed harvesting operation would not impact wildlife, (See attached letter).
R~elved
MAR2~1~
oN~~~ Mme ~ ~ N
logy
