<br />72C-Unnamed sandy loam, 1 to I2 percent slopes <br />This deep, well drained, nearly level to sloping soil is on alluvial <br />fans and terraces. It formed in mixed alluvium derived from redbed <br />sandstones and shales with a mantle of volcanic material on the surface. <br />Elevation ranges from (a ,3 OO to 7,2D0 feet. The average annual pre- <br />cipitation is about 1~ inches, the average annual air temperature is <br />about-44 degrees £.. and- the .frrast-free period is aboiit_ B5 to .105. days. <br />' Typinally; the surface layer.is brown sandy loam.abovt 13 inches thick <br />in the upper part and grayish brown sandy loam about 10 inches thick <br />in the lower part. These surface layers have a gritty feel due to the <br />volcanic material. The underlying layers are reddish brown sandy loam <br />about 12 inches thick and light reddish brown sandy loam that extends <br />-tv: 5~ ~*~+~ or more. <br />'Thickness: of'the dark enlm~d ~ta'fat4.layers.rangee_:fr~..1D tD. 2b <br />inches. Texture is usually a sandy loam, fine sandp loam, or loam <br />all with a gritty feel due to pumice.
