3. Surface Water Ditches
Surface water is collected in shotcrete-lined ditches which outlet into the ponds. The intent of
the shotcrete-lined ditches is to prevent water fmm infiltrating into the landslide. However,
these shotcreted ditches crack and move during landslide movement resulting in concentrated
flow and infiltration into the tension cracks of the landslide mass. A routine maintenance plan
is in place to repair ditches (especially in the spring) to prevent infiltration of surface water.
Long-term reclamation will remove the ditches to prevent concentrated flow.
4. Portal Retaining Structure
Because the landslide mass is water driven from the head, localized sloughing of the head may
occur during wet conditions. If necessary, a soldier pile wall or buttress against the head of
the landslide in the vicinity of the portals is proposed to stabilize and prevent the localized
sloughing. The proposed location of the portal retaining structure is shown on Figure 1.
I~
U
•
oszsoza~aessi-vpaM
