• 1.0 Introduction
The purpose of this document is to present the stability of the landslide at the main facilities of
the West Elk Mine for eristing conditions and post-mining conditions. The stability is based upon
the characteristics of the landslide, analyses of corrective measures, and the monitoring
information. This document presents a brief characterization of the landslide, an overview of the
corrective measures implemented, the results of the analyses of the corrective measures, and a
summary of selected monitoring information. This information is used to establish the stability for
existing conditions and for post-reclamation conditions.
Mountain Coal Company is using the Observational Approach to landslide stabilization wherein
the implementation of corrective measures is based upon the monitoring information and the
performance of in-place corrective measures. Additional corrective measures are proposed and will
be implemented if the conditions warrant additional stabilization. These additional corrective
measures are also discussed in this document. Figure 1 is a plan of the landslide area which
shows the location of the existing and currently proposed corrective measures.
•
•
0626024\58991-LABM
