Map 8, Regional Hydrology, presents the ~:urrent monitoring stations.
Annual Hydrology Reports are stand alone documents containing, the
methods and results of all monitoring ac•=ivities. In addition,
monitoring has been conducted in accorda!zce with the NPDES Permit as
described in Exhibit 22, NPDES Permit, and summarized in the Annual
Hydrology Reports.
NE-001-G: A grab sample station from the New Elk Mine remediation
system permitted under NPDES P=_rmit No. COG-310069. The
station was established to monitor water discharging from
the UST facilities area. NE-001-G is sampled at its outfall
prior to discharging into D-16, which flows into Pond NE-
007, a site monitored under NPDES Permit No. CO-0000906.
NE-004: Grab sample of the discharge from the primary spillway of
sediment pond 004. This site predominately handles runoff
from the development waste pile located south of Highway 12.
NE-o05: Grab sample of the discharge from the primary spillway of
Sediment Pond Number 5.
NE-007: Grab sample of the discharge from the primary spillway of
Sediment Pond Number 7 (stormwater and industrial runoff
from the eastern portion of the facilities area).
NE-008: A grab sample location at the primary spillway outfall of a
sediment pond located at the base of the Refuse Disposal
Area of the New Elk Mine.
PAW-1: A sample from an alluvial well located in the Purgatoire
Alluvium adjacent to PRS-1. This sample station was
established to monitor water quality above the existing coal
development refuse pile.
PAW-2: A sample from an alluvial well located adjacent to the
Purgatoire River approximately 200 yards downstream of
PAW-1. This sample station was established to monitor water
quality down gradient from the existing coal development
refuse pile at the New Elk Mine.
PAW-3: A sample from an alluvial well located adjacent to the
Purgatoire River approximately 300 yards downstream of
PAW-2. During March and April of 1985, 500 feet of the
Middle Fork of the Purgatoire River was diverted to the
north to create additional room for the coal stockpile at
the New Elk Preparation Plant. As the diversion was cut
through an existing refuse disposal area, two alluvial
wells, PAW-3 and PAW-4, were established to monitor water
elevation and chemical parameters. The wells were cased
with 18 inch
•
•
•
~f~'~I l
~~9g
2.05-90d
(revised 08/29/97)
