included all active and inactive underground mine workings. The Annual
Hydrology Reports through 1989 present t:he mapping results of each point
:source inflow (faults, fractured roof, fractured floor, exploration drill ~'
hole, etc.) and each area wide inflow (drainage from seals to abandoned
mine workings; areas of weeping coal faces, roof, or floors; unsealed
rtiined areas, etc.) that were encountered during the survey. A total of
1.20 gpm inflow was estimated. Of that amount, approximately 108 gpm were
being generated from mined out areas totalling approximately 2,800 acres.
water inflow surveys were suspended after the mine was sealed in 1989.
No water was discharged until 1994 when the thickener recycling program
commenced.
Water quality of the inflow was also measured during the survey.
The Annual Hydrology Reports present the temperature, conductivity and
pH of each source. The quality of those sources seeping from gob or
abandoned mine areas was higher in temperature and conductivity than
those areas of current workings. Quality ranged from 1,830 to 3,540
umhos conductivity, 15.6 to 18.3°C temperature and 6.7 to 8.0 S.U. pH.
The quality of active areas ranged from 762 to 1045 umhos conductivity,
9.9 to 15.3°C temperature and 6.9 to 8.0 S.U. pH.
Mine water inflow was collected in a sump and discharged from the
mine by pumping. The quality of the discharge water is controlled by
NPDES standards which limit potential impact to the hydrologic balance.

n
U
(Revised 2/6/95)
2.05-87
