Included with your letter are the laboratory analytical
results from three samples collected from the Washbay Pond. Although the samples are from within the pond,
your stated intention, in addition to complying with Part I.B.3., was to demonstrate that waters in the pond
were in compliance with the standard of 0.1 mg/Q for BETX prior to discharging from the Washbay Pond [o the
Work Area Pond.
Samples were collected on 4/6/99, 4/12/99 and 4/19/99. The four pollutants that make up BETX (benzene,
ethylbenzene, toluene and xylene) were analyzed and reported separately by the laboratory. None of the four
pollutants were detected in any of the three analyses. A combined detection limit of 6 ug/Q (0.006 mg/Q) was
shown. Thus, the three analyses represented BETX concentrations of less than 6% of the standard.
This submittal satisfies the requirements of Part I.B.3. The Division fords no need to impose a BETX
limitation or require further monitoring at this time. If future effluent quality or other information indicates the
need for ]imitations or monitoring, the permit may be reopened to incorporate such requirements, subject to
public notice provisions.
Please contact me at (303) 692-3605 if you have questions.
Sincerely,
~n C Ku is
Environmental Protection Specialist
Permits Unit, Water Quality Protection Section
xc: M53 File
Carta Lcnk<y, Indusrrial Compliance Assurance Ofnccr.
