6
moisture content. The coefficient of friction for the "GW" type soil is typically
in the range of 1.0.
D. Drainage and Irrigation
1. Permeability: The "CL" type soil permeability is nearly 5 x 10-8 cm/sec. The
"GW" type soil permeability is nearly 2.5 x 10 2 cm/sec.
2. Hydrologic Soil Group: The "CL" type soil is a "D" type soil, which has poor
infiltration rates when thoroughly wet. The "GW" type soil is a "A" type soil,
which has good infiltration rates when thoroughly wet.
;. Irrigation: Adjacent irrigation may detrimentally affect slope stability.
Therefore it is advisable to line or pipe nearby open irrigation ditches. This
procedure may be considered on a item by item basis by the engineer.
E. Borings
1. Ten geotechnical test boreholes were drilled on this site.
Recommendations
We recommend that the current plan be amended to reflect the setbacks set forth herein.
The appropriateness of these setbacks shall be field verfied by a professional engineer
on an ongoing basis. The setbacks may be reduced or increased on the basis of these site
inspections. Given the minimal nature of some setbacks, and given acceptance of this
report by Ephemeral Resources LLC, the minimal setbacks are approved upon the
condition that Ephemeral Resources LLC is willing to restore any disturbance to an
adjoining site to the original or better condition in a reasonable period of time.
Given the growth of residential housing in Grand Junction, it is further recommended that
signs be posted adjacent to each parcel indicating that a future mining area will exist. This
will give people the opportunity to plan for permanent man-made structures as based~on
any future mining process. These signs would be posted upon approval of the proposed
project.
